Garment Care

General Best Practises:

All our clothes can be machine washed on cold in the delicate cycle followed by a tumble dry on low heat, but we highly recommend to hang or lay flat to dry away from the sun – hanging dry will prolong the life of your garment!

Cotton Denim items can be machine washed on cold in the delicate cycle followed by a tumble dry on low heat.

Silk items can occasionally be machine washed on cold in the delicate cycle, but we recommend hand washing your pieces, it will prolong their life and improve colour fastness. Hang or lay flat to dry away from the sun.

Linen items can be machine washed on cold in the delicate cycle. Hang or lay flat to dry away from the sun. If you like a pristine, crisp appearance to your linen, we recommend ironing.

Velvet items can occasionally be machine washed on cold in the delicate cycle, but hand washing will prolong their life and improve colour fastness. Hang or lay flat to dry away from the sun.

Natural Dyes from organic sources create rich colours that fell almost alive. Even for conventionally dyed fabrics, it’s completely normal for colour to bleed for the first few washes. This should not compromise the shade of your garment and will lessen with time. Always wash items alone or with like colours for the first wash and continue to do so, if bleeding occurs. Cold water reduces bleeding.

Love and wear your clothes often, day after day, season after season!

Caring for your pieces from FAWN

To give your pieces their longest life, we highly recommend hand-washing or washing in a delicate cycle with cold water, in a mesh bag, and laying flat to dry (out of the sun). Most of the pieces we carry at FAWN fall into this category.

Occasionally, we sell pieces labelled “dry clean only” (eg. delicate appliques, or knits) and we recommend following that instruction...it was likely a considered one by the designer who made it.

We always recommend that you have a rubber sole put on your leather-soled shoes (this can be done with your favourite cobbler)...it will help prevent slips, and will extend the life of your shoes.

Wash your denim as little as possible by knowing when to wash them.

Feel free to reach out to us for recommendations if you have a beloved FAWN piece that needs some tailoring or garment care to give it a longer life, we can make a suggestion or give you a referral to a Toronto-based pro.
